Gaining Better Health Through A Raw Food Diet
Chances are that you’ve probably heard people talk about a raw food diet and how healthy it is for you, but did you ever wonder exactly what it is they’re talking about? Perhaps you envisioned raw oysters and beef on your dinner table. That doesn’t sound too appealing doesn’t?
In fact, a raw food diet is simply eating food in its natural unprocessed state. You probably already are on part of a raw food diet. If you snack on fruits and vegetables without cooking them, then you’ve eaten raw food.
Raw food, or unprocessed food is much better for you because the act of processing the food strips it of a lot of its vital nutrients. You’ve probably heard that cooking vegetables can leach out a lot of the vitamins and it can also destroy the important food enzymes as well. Packaged foods, that you find in the grocery store like potato flakes to make mashed potatoes and other foods that have been processed in some way to make an easy package meal not only have little nutritional value, but your body simply isn’t made to process these foods.
If you think about raw foods as being the natural foods the way that they come from the earth, then it makes sense that these are easier for our bodies to process as these of the foods are great ancestors ate and there really hasn’t been that many generations since grocery stores, and therefore prepackaged foods, were invented.
Raw foods are packed full of vitamins, minerals and food enzymes. These food enzymes are important, although you don’t hear a lot about them. One of the things they do is help you digest your food and getting enough enzymes can help your body with the digestion process which takes a lot of energy, and if your body is spending less energy on digestion it will have more energy for you to do the things you like. Did you ever wonder why you feel so tired after you eat a big meal of cooked foods? One of the reasons is because food enzymes are destroyed by cooking, so there are no enzymes to help your body digests that big meal you just ate.
People in a raw food diet eat about 75% of their food as raw and whole foods. This includes fruits, vegetables, sprouts, raw nuts, seaweed and other foods in their natural form.
Raw foods can be prepared in a couple of ways. One of the most popular is juicing. Many people go on a juice fast where all they do is drink the juice of raw organic fruits and vegetables. Even just drinking fresh juice in the morning can give your health a boost.
Another way that people eat raw foods is to use a food dehydrator. This takes all the moisture out of the fruits and vegetables so they can be easily stored for long periods of time without going bad. A food dehydrator uses hot air to dehydrate the food but it keeps the temperature under 116°F so that the vital food enzymes are not destroyed.
Of course, you can simply eat your fruits and vegetables the way nature intended picked straight from the tree. Nuts can be a great raw food that you eat for snacks as well, but be careful because most of the nuts you find in the grocery store are cooked. You need to make sure you get raw nuts which you probably will have to buy either online or from a health food store.
You don’t have to all of a sudden start eating 75% of your foods as raw foods in order to enjoy the health benefits of the raw food diet. You can gradually increase the amount of raw foods you eat as time goes on and you will notice how much more energy you have and how healthy you feel. Remember, you are what you eat!

Fat Loss: Fast Food Junkie to Health Style Savvy
When overweight individuals are told they have to change their eating styles, the dread that comes with this thought is at varying degrees. In other words, some people’s pre- weight loss eating habits are not as bad as what someone else’s is. Their lack of losing fat may have to do with some other factors. It’s the fast food junkies that face pure panic when they are told they must change their eating habits. Part of the problem, and part of the failure for some people is they try to make the transition too quickly. Just as some people can quit smoking cold turkey, while others have to wean themselves off.
If you have tried all kinds of methods to try to switch to a healthy diet and it has failed, then try this slower but perhaps more effective method.
Start in the morning and plan your meals for today. Don’t consider what is good or what is bad for you at this particular moment. Don’t even think about the fact that you are starting a life style change. Now write out a list of healthy foods for each of those meals. Use five food items for each meal. Next, pick out one healthy food that you like the best out of each one of the categories. Now remove one of the unhealthier foods and substitute it with one of the healthy foods in each group. Continue doing this on a regular basis until you have eventually replaced all of the unhealthy foods with the healthy ones. This is just one of the many innovative ways you can become health style savvy. Don’t worry if it takes a while between each transition that’s fine, just stick with it, eventually you won’t even remember what fast foods were. You will naturally have moved to healthier eating.

The Basics Of Dog Health
Dogs, just like humans, have a variety of conditions that can affect their health. Unfortunately, dogs can have bone and joint problems, eye problems, nervous disorders, digestive, respiratory and cardiovascular disorders, as well as hereditary diseases and even cancers. As a dog owner, the health of your pet is always a concern. The good news is that by following a few simple steps, you can ensure that your dog will be healthy and any conditions that arise will be noted and treated as early as possible to obtain the best possible outcome.
The following list is a general outline of the suggestions that most vets recommend for ensuring your dog’s health. Remember that some breeds may have additional needs that are health-related, so be sure to research your breed and be aware of any conditions or dog health risks that may be prevalent within the breed.
Exercise
All dogs need some level of exercise on a daily basis. Many of the small breeds will exercise indoors or will “self-exercise”, but other breeds simply do not. Owners need to realize that just turning the dog outside in the yard for a couple of hours a day may not be exercise either. Many dogs will simply find a shady spot to rest in until they’re allowed back in the house. Having a dog means that you’re willing to make a commitment to their daily exercise, whether that is going for a walk, jog, or just tossing the ball or Frisbee for 20 minutes. Watch your dog to be sure that they’re not over tired or injured during exercise, especially if there’s a lot of jumping or running involved. Encourage your dog to exercise even if they don’t seem to want to that day.
Diet
Feed only a good quality or premium dry kibble to your dog. Avoid the wet foods, as they are often not as nutritionally balanced as the kibble, plus they can cause both dental and digestive problems. If you are feeding wet food, consult with your vet and make sure that you are using the correct amount and type to balance the nutritional needs of your dog. Avoid feeding human food and too many treats. Human food or treats should be less than 5% of the daily food intake of your dog. Many vets and dog health experts recommend no human food and only select dog treats.
Some foods should be avoided completely. The following are harmful and possibly fatal to dogs:
· Chocolates
· Sweets and sugars
· Raisins
· Raw pork
· Raw fish
· Any kind of poultry that is raw
· Any kind of raw or cooked poultry bones
· Coffee
· Mushrooms
· Onions and garlic (in large quantities)
Dogs should always have free access to clean water and should never be kenneled or kept in an area where there is no water.
Attention to Detail
By carefully observing your dog on a regular basis, you can note any signs of discomfort or anxiety quickly. Watch for changes in your dog’s behavior, including their energy level and food and water consumption. Often the first signs of many conditions are a change in eating patterns. Any odd behavior should be noted and carefully monitored. Behaviors such as seizures, excessive salivating, excessive or abnormal tearing of the eyes or discharges from any part of the body should be immediately checked by a vet.
Routine Vet Visits
Be sure to keep vaccinations and other dog health precautions up to date with routine visits to the vet. In some areas, heartworm and other conditions require constant monitoring and the vet can provide this service. Before breeding your dog, be sure to have her or him completely checked for any genetic conditions or predispositions such as hip dysplasia.
Love and Attention
Last, but certainly not least, your dog needs your family’s love and attention. Dogs thrive when they feel they are a loved and involved member of the family. Dog health is linked to love and attention, as loving owners are usually more aware of changes in the dog’s health and well being and get professional help sooner.
In all cases, it is vitally important to talk to your vet about any concerns that you may have with dog health and be sure to know any conditions that are specific to the breed of dog that you own.

What kind of background or experience do you need to work in a health food store?
I would like to either start working in the industry or own my own health food store in the next few years. Do you NEED university of college degrees or diplomas? Or can you get training and would that be sufficient? Anyone in the field?
A bachelor’s degree in business or marketing combined with actual experience working in a market would be the ideal combination. It doesn’t matter what kind of business or industry you want to go into, you need to know how to run a business as a start in order to be successful.
Healthy meals for students and other busy people: 6-pack abs and gain muscle with good nutrition
Good nutrition is the secret to both losing fat and gaining muscle, in this video I show you how to eat 6 inexpensive, nutritious meals a day without cooking or shopping. This video is in response to the hundreds of people who have written me saying they knew their nutrition was horrible but felt powerless to improve it because of the schedule constraints of their work, school, or life. Eating 6 small, well balanced meals a day is easy when you know how and once your nutrition is on track you will find it easy to reduce bodyfat to show those 8-pack abs and gain muscle too.
The one thing you need to do though is get rid of the idea that food always has to be tasty. Jack LaLane had a great saying “If it tastes good, spit it out!” and its so true. If something is that good then its most likely got too much sugar, salt, fat or artificial flavors. When something tastes really, really good your first thought should be – “whats in this?”. Think about what you are eating! If what makes it taste good is the nasty stuff mentioned above then spit it out. Obviously if? you are eating a carrot or an apple and it tastes good this doesnt apply. The saying is designed to make you think about everything you eat. If you dont know what is on the list of ingredients and its nutritional content then SPIT IT OUT!
Here are the meals I eat during the video:
5:00am coffee and protein powder mixed in water (about 100 cals)
6:30am oatmeal with flax and protein powder (about 400 cals)
9:30am mixed frozen vegetables with spaghetti sauce and protein powder mixed in water (about 400 cals)
12:00 shredded wheat with nonfat milk, flax, and protein powder (about 400 cals)
2:30pm can of kidney beans and raisins (about 300 cals)
5:00pm dried soybeans and raisins (about 300 cals)
7:30pm mixed frozen vegetables with spaghetti sauce and protein powder mixed in water (about 300 cals)
9:00pm protein powder mixed in water (100 cals)
If you eat too much your kidneys have to work overtime to get rid of it and its not healthy. How much protein consumption is too much? Many bodybuilders consume more than 1g protein per pound of body weight per day without any problems. I keep under that number, I weigh 240 lbs and consume about 200g protein a day.
You will notice that I didnt eat any chicken/meat/fish during the whole day, that is typical for me. I eat meat when I go out to restaurants (about once a week) but not at home. If you want, feel free to use meats for your protein rather than protein powder. You can get dried fish and meat, and you can also get canned salmon/tuna. Both of these are very convenient. If you have time, you can grill up some chicken twice a week and use this as your protein.
Many, many people have asked what protein powder I recommend. I would stick to protein powders that have the words “100% Natural” in the name. The protein powder I use is here:

scroll to the bottom of the page.
People seem really confused about three products and its really important you get these straight or you will make some serious dietary mistakes!
Protein Powder – Contents: protein (whey, soy or egg)
Protein Shanks – Contents: protein (whey, soy or egg), sugar, assorted chemicals
Weight Gainer – Contents: protein (whey, soy or egg), sugar, assorted chemicals
Nutrition is key to being able to add muscle! I cover nutrition on my website, if thats not detailed enough for you I have reviewed and recommended some excellent books:

Is Whey Protein Powder Primal or Paleo? Is It A Health Food? – www.PrimalToad.com
Read the blog post at http://primaltoad.com
What do you think? Is whey protein powder primal or paleo? Most believe it is ok as a supplement 2-3 times per week. This is where I stand. Sure, I would prefer wild alaskan salmon or a nice steak instead but during this economy and the fact that people are always looking to save time, whey protein is a great option.
Don’t enjoy it everyday, but 2-3 times per week is just fine. Buy a brand that has only whey protein so you can make a delicious, healthy smoothie!
